About Kay Danes
Kay Danes is the bestselling author of "Families Behind Bars"- Stories of Injustice, Endurance and Hope (2008), and her own inspirational survival story "Standing Ground"- (2009)

On December 23, 2000, while managing an international security company in Laos, Kay and Kerry Danes were centred in a dispute between their client and corrupt Lao Government officials. Kay and Kerry endured brutal interrogations, mock executions, torture, and the forced separation from their three small children for 10 harrowing months. If not for the Australian government's strong intervention and lobbying, Kay and Kerry Danes would not have regained their freedom.
Kay Danes is the recipient of numerous humanitarian awards, including two Australia Day Awards. Kay is also the Australian Liaison for the Childlight Foundation for Afghan Children (a registered USA Charity working alongside the US State Department and Rotary).

Kay Danes has addressed several U.S. Congressional forums on democracy, a key note speaker at the US National Press Club, and is the only Australian ever to be invited as a panellist to the 61st Conference on World Affairs (2009) attended by 91,000. Speakers: Eleanor Roosevelt, Vice-President Joe Biden. Kay is a popular public speaker and frequently appears on the public speaking circuit at Universities, Multi-National Corporations, Defence Organisations, and Literary Festivals.
