Dr. Travis Gee BA (hons), MA, PhD Psychology (Carleton), Assoc. MAPS, QMACA
Travis Gee is a registered psychologist who taught psychology at a large Australian university for several years. Following this he moved to Brisbane to set up in private practice, and pursued research interests part-time at UQ and Griffith. His university work includes research on disability and rehabilitation, chronic disease self-management and recovery from brain damage. His personal research focuses on understanding the way people manage daily life, particularly divorced and separated parents. Travis' practice has fallen largely into these areas, where he balances a scientist-practitioner approach to counselling with the need to understand and engage each client on his or her own terms. A member of the editorial board of Counselling Australia, he has recently received an honorary position on the curriculum development committee of the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors.
Travis' particular interest is in cases that would benefit from his approach to:
Coping with major life transitions (including but not limited to coping with chronic disease - especially cancer and tinnitus - or major injury)
Relationship issues
Non-custodial parents' issues following divorce and separation
Forensic analysis of legal materials in cases of sexual abuse allegations, particularly those involving long-delayed 'recovered memories.'
Eating disorders
Personal mentoring
Anger management
