Thank you for choosing to write to Schapelle Corby who is currently detained in Kerobokan prison. We hope you find the following information useful.

Update 27 June 2005

Schapelle's Birthday
Please be advised that Schapelle Corby is not planning on celebrating her up and coming birthday in July because she has told the family that she is going to remain the same age until she returns home to Australia. We therefore request that it would be better not to reference her birthday as this may cause her additional grief.

WRITE A LETTER TO SCHAPELLE
This document is one of three prepared by SASG to assist you in writing letters to –
  • Schapelle.
  • Indonesian Authorities.
  • Australian Politicians.

Each of these has peculiar sensitivities which should be observed in order to promote the correct response. The guide is not conclusive and if you have any further suggestions please contact SASG and advise accordingly.

Letters to Schapelle

You can play a very important role in helping Schapelle survive until she can return home, by writing to her either once or preferably on a regular basis. Schapelle reads all letters sent to her although she does not get much opportunity to write back, and letters are returned to Australia for safe keeping until she returns.

One of Schapelle’s big worries is that, as time passes, she will be forgotten and left to die in prison.

So, what do we write about, to someone we do not know? The following may help -

    1. Put yourself in Schapelle’s position receiving a letter from a stranger – what would you like to know about the writer?
      a. Tell her about yourself, age, married, single, occupation etc, what ever you feel comfortable with:
      b. Any special interests that you have, hobbies, travel etc;
      c. Tell her of some of the better things happening in the world;
      d. Add a bit of humour;
      e. Let her know that you support and care for her and that you will not forger her. Once started, you can add a lot more.

    2. Do not talk unduly about her prison situation or the court cases. We want to keep her mind off these as much as possible. There has been much negativity in the media and this must be left to the family and Schapelle’s legal team to convey to her.

    3. Remember, the prison guards will most likely read your mail so please do not say anything which could inflame the situation.

    4. Your letter does not need to be very long; you may even decide to send just a short note on a post card.

    5. Do not send money with your letter as it will most likely finish up in the hands of the guards. If you wish to make a financial contribution to support Schapelle, please make a cheque payable to Schapelle Corby Trust Account and forward it, together with a stamped, self addressed envelope (for a receipt), to

    6. Address letters to -

CARE PACKAGES

Care packages for Schapelle. Update 19 September 2005

    Amidst all the confusion that's going around about the delivery of care packages to the Consulate in Bali, Mercedes has confirmed [Sun night 11/09/05] that if anyone would like to send a care package for Schapelle then they should send directly to the Prison and NOT the consulate.

    A delivery pick up notice is sent to her and she collects the packages from the Post Office and delivers to Schapelle.

    Our apologies for any confusion. At times it is difficult to keep up with the many changes relating to Schapelle's situation.

  • Care Package Information

  • Visits to Schapelle in Kerobokan...

    It is now only family and lawyers allowed to see Schapelle due to the many problems arising from "unknown visitors" requesting access. Some of the visits have been most disturbing and others are simply to take advantage of Schapelle's terrible situation for personal gain. Schapelle has a huge heart and feels terrible that this may now prevent well intentioned people from visiting but her personal security and mental health must be a priority.

    If you are planning to visit Bali, it is still possible to leave care packages and messages for her at the front reception of the prison. Just simply request to the guards that they pass on to her your items. Write a note with any items that have been given so that Schapelle knows nothing has been taken and who the items are from. It is possible that you may be promised a visit with her for a fee but don't be fooled. Your visit is not guaranteed.

    People can still send letters and care packages via the post. These are getting through and are really keeping her spirits up!
