Visiting Times:
Inmates are allowed visits from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00
p.m. Saturday and Sunday but not on weekends that contain public holidays (for
example if the weekend is part of the Easter holiday or directly after Anzac
Day) or on Christmas Day. There are no restrictions on the number of family
members or friends visiting inmates and there are no booking requirements. Upon
arrival visitors must report to the Custodial Officer on duty. Inmates at Hayes
may apply for house visits with their immediate family and spouse/defacto. To
do so the inmate must submit a “Request Form” at least seven (7) days prior to
the requested visit. Approval is at the discretion of the Manager or his/her
delegate and will only be given subject to certain conditions being met.
Facilities available for use during visits are a BBQ, Under cover facilities and
a children’s play area.

Visiting Times:
There are two (2) types of visits - Box Visits
or Contact Visits. Inmates are entitled to two (2) forty-five (45) minute
visits per week, available seven (7) days per week, except for Christmas Day
and Good Friday. Contact visits are by prior approval, under special
circumstances only, or if the inmate has been at the remand centre for more
than 28 days. Inmates must fill in a “Request Form” prior to the requested
Contact Visit. Box Visits are booked by the family of the inmate and must be
booked by 10.00 a.m, the visit day. Visitors coming into Hobart Remand Centre
may be searched and all visitors must pass through a metal detector before
proceeding to the visits area. A children’s play area is available for use
during visiting times.

Visiting Times:
Minimum
security they are entitled to Contact visits, Saturday and Sunday from
9.30 a.m. – 3.30 p.m. outside the Prison walls in the pergola area. Facilities
for use during visits include toilets and children’s play area.
Medium security
inmates are entitled to a ninety (90) minute supervised contact visit, on
Saturday afternoon from 2.00 p.m. - 3.30 p.m. These visits may also take
place outside the Prison walls. Facilities for use during visits include
toilets and children’s play area.
Maximum security
inmates are entitled to one (1) forty five (45) minute Contact visit either
Saturday morning, 10.00 a.m. - 10.45 a.m. or Sunday 10.00 a.m. - 10.45 a.m. or
2.00 p.m. - 2.45 p.m.

Transport to all Tasmanian Prisons
|
|
For visitors living in the north and north-west of Tasmania without transport, a
bus is provided monthly by the Launceston City Mission. For information about
dates for this bus, or to book a seat telephone the Launceston City Mission on
(03) 6331 6999.
The bus leaves Launceston at approximately 9.45 a.m. on one Saturday per month.
When it arrives in Hobart, visitors to Risdon Maximum Security, the Prison
Hospital, Medium Security or the Women’s Prison can access the Visitors Centre
at Risdon. The Visitors Centre is open from 11.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on ‘City
Mission’ days. Childcare facilities are not available but children are welcome
in the company of their parents or other adults. Visitors are welcome to relax
and spend time at the Visitors Centre prior to and after they attend visits at
the Prison.
The bus departs from the Risdon Prison complex at approximately 3.30 p.m.
During the Christmas season an extra bus may also be scheduled by Launceston
City Mission.
For visitors to Hayes Prison Farm, Metro buses run six (6) times a day from
Hobart Stop F to New Norfolk. If you are travelling from Hobart to the Risdon
Prison Complex, Metro runs a regular service from Hobart Stop C. To find out
the specific times for these services contact Metro on 132201.
If
you wish to travel from Launceston to Hobart to visit, Redline Coaches offers a
service that runs three (3) times a day during week days and twice on weekends.

Launceston City Mission has also combined with Anglicare Burnie to provide a bus
service from Burnie to Risdon Prison with connecting services to Hayes Prison
Farm and Hobart Remand Centre. This bus operates the fourth Saturday of each
month, leaving from Burnie Park, near Strahan Street, Burnie. The time of
departure is approximately 7.30 a.m. The bus will arrive Risdon Prison complex
at approximately 12.30 p.m. During the time the bus is at Risdon Prison the
visitors centre will be open for use. The bus will then leave from the Risdon
Complex at approximately 3.30 p.m.
