We wish to confirm that Schapelle had a visit to the dentist Wednesday 28th Feb 2007 - with appropriate police escort and the Australian Consulate following behind in an Embassy vehicle. Schapelle got a filling and was in and out of Kerobokan Prison in 45minutes. She did not stop along the way to go to the beach or shopping. The Australian Consulate made representations, as they do for all Australians detained overseas, to the Kerobokan Prison authorities and were granted permission for Schapelle to have access to appropriate medical care [dental].
Schapelle states that there was a local cameraman who filmed her leaving the prison and followed her to and from the dentist. Other still shots of Schapelle going to court leading up to her sentencing in 2005 have also been used in television advertising. Pictures of Schapelle, taken on 28 November 2004, when she was detained at Polda Police Station have been used in television advertising to suggest that Schapelle is taking day trips around Bali. Such images are not recent.
Close friends to Schapelle Corby say that the claims Schapelle gets days out of prison are totally false. The prison officials and diplomatic staff also reiterate that this is not possible. Friends confirm that numerous rumours from Expats in Bali continue to circulate of how they saw Schapelle Corby at a night club on one occassion or her sunbathing care-free on Kuta beach at other times. It is a huge joke throughout the small Indonesian island and most don't take it seriously. Schapelle's response to all this is to simply take it in her stride. She is sometimes hurt that people listen to these stories and then think that she is having an easy life. Her life is absolute hell.
The Governor of the prison does an excellent job of securing the prison and prisoners. He takes his responsibilities very seriously,as do the Australian Consulate Officers in Bali.
No money that supporters donate to the trust account is used in bribes as allegedly suggested in recent media reports. These funds are not accessed but are held in trust and audited by a chartered accountant in accordance with Taxation guidelines. The suggestion that supporters financial support is used to pay bribes is false.
One begs to question the motivation behind these fabricated stories and what good they could possibly bring to other Australians detained in Kerobokan Prison.
