Sorrow felt by Schapelle Supporters

The outpouring of concern for the Corby's and for Schapelle has been overwhelming particularly from the supporters of the Spirit of Schapelle Support Forum. Many of these supporters were sparked into action after receiving an urgent request from the Administrator of the Free Schapelle Website - Schapelle Corby's Official Web site. They have written last minute appeals to the Australian Government, telephoned their local members of parliament and Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer, appealed to the Australian Attorney General and Ambassador of Indonesia to Australia. They sent hundreds of letters of outrage to the Australian media.
"Thank you to everyone who is continuing to support Schapelle. She really does appreciate all the letters and the care you continue to give to her. Today marks a day of terrible injustice and I can't for the life of me fathom how this can be allowed to happen" says Kay Danes, advocate Foreign Prisoner Support Service.
It is fair to say that Schapelle had absolutely no chance to prove her innocence because the cannabis was not ever analyzed. The President of Indonesia has stated that the Corby trial must be so that nobody can complain that the court behaved improperly. Certainly destroying the evidence is improper. The Chief Prosecutor insisted the evidence be completely destroyed to prevent the stash being stolen from a police lockup. If the Chief Prosecutor has such little confidence in his own authorities, then the question begs to be asked why? Is he suggesting they are not trustworthy or simply incompetent?

Corby's despair as evidence burns

Dear Excellency,
On 27th May 2005 a young Australian, Schapelle Corby, was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment because alleged importing of marijuana into Indonesia. I'm aware that Mrs. Corby was forced to prove her innocence by the Indonesian court. She tried this in requesting a forensic analysis of the marijuana. Such an analysis could have shown the origin of the marijuana and there could have been DNA-traces of persons who were in contact with it. However this was rejected by the court judges. This astonishes me. I thought Indonesia is on war on drugs. But I would have thought that this means that drugs cases must be solved completely. In Mrs. Corby's case we still don't know there are the drugs from, which persons were involved in the drug smuggling (besides Mrs. Corby if she is really guilty) and what was the destination of the drugs. The fact that the Indonesian authorities refused to analyze the marijuana leads not only to the assumption that they are not interested in solving the case completely (a contradiction to the proclaimed 'war on drugs'), it also gives ground to the suspicion that Indonesian authorities fear the results of such an analysis.
Now it is reported that the marijuana is going to be destroyed without it ever being forensically analyzed. The fact that Mrs. Corby and her lawyers requested these tests and Indonesian officials refused it shows who fears the results of these tests.
In April 2005 Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that the verdict in the Corby case has to be just. A just trial means that the lawyers of the alleged person have full access to the evidence and that everything which could prove the innocence of the suspect or could lead to a way to prove the innocence is allowed to be followed. In Mrs. Corby's trial this is not the case.
