South African Women in Prison in Thailand
Dawn Van Niekirk
Dawn Van Niekirk is a South African woman who has been incarcerated in Lard Yao womens prison in Thailand for over 13 years as of 2005.

Vanessa Goosen
Vanessa Goosen, a former Miss SA finalist who is serving a 30 year sentence in Lard Yao Prison. She was arrested at the Bangkok Airport in 1994 with 2.7kg heroin in her possession. She was pregnant at the time and her daughter, Felicia was born in prison. A friend in Johannesburg is raising the child. Vanessa has lodged an appeal to the King of Thailand and is hoping her plea for mercy is successful. Please read more at her campaign page. This is a young woman who deserves a second chance in life.

Gladys Naidoo
Gladys Naidoo is a South African grandmother who is serving 60 years in jail for drug trafficking has told of her hell in a dingy cell in Thailand which at one stage she shared with 250 other inmates.

A Thai court imposed a 100-year sentence, which was reduced to 60 years in 1996 when prisoners were given a pardon by Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

In letters to her family, Naidoo tells of her life in Bangkok's notorious prison - which has a population of more than 50 000 - and how sometimes she must get by on only one meal a day.

As of September 2007 it has been reported that Gladys is still in prison in Thailand.
